- 01
Open the user menu in the top bar and select Language — or go to Profile and find Language & translation.
- 02
Pick a language. Sonny switches straight away; there is nothing to save.
- 03
Choose Automatic to follow your browser's language instead.
Your choice is saved to your account, so it follows you to the apps and every browser you sign in on. On the sign-in page, use the language button below the form.
Talk to customers in any language
Turn on Translate customer messages in Profile → Language & translation. It's on by default for workspaces with Sonny AI.
- 01
Customer messages arrive in your language
When a customer writes in another language, a bar above the conversation names it and each message shows in your interface language, marked Translated from … with a Show original link.
- 02
Write your reply in your own language
The composer shows Send in … with the customer's language. Leave it on and Sonny translates your reply when you press Send. Use the eye button to preview the translation first.
- 03
The customer reads it in theirs
The customer receives the translated reply. In your thread it stays in the words you wrote, marked Sent in … so you always know what went out.
Where languages apply
- Your interface
- Every screen, menu, notification and email Sonny sends you follows your language. Each teammate chooses their own.
- Conversations
- Customer messages, teammates' notes and AI replies in other languages are translated for you. Internal notes are never sent to customers.
- The chat widget
- Buttons, labels and status lines follow each visitor's browser language. Turn on Translate greeting and status messages in the widget settings to translate your own greeting too.
- Help center
- Set Help center language in your help center settings so search, navigation and feedback labels match the language your articles are written in.
AI replies can carry your assistant's own name instead of “AI Assistant” — set Assistant name in the channel's AI settings.
Questions
- Which languages can customers write in?
- Any language the AI model understands — more than 100, including every major one. Interface languages are the thirteen listed above.
- Do I need Sonny AI?
- Translating conversations and widget greetings uses Sonny AI (an AI plan or your own API key). Choosing your interface language is free on every plan.
- Can I turn translation off?
- Yes. Switch off Translate customer messages in Profile → Language & translation, use Show originals on a single conversation, or turn off Send in … for a single reply.
- What if a translation fails?
- Your reply is not sent, so nothing untranslated goes out by surprise. Try again, or turn off Send in … and send it as written.
